Got Email Problem?

Published by Ricky under BizPartner, Hosting, Support

This is applicable to BizPartner email hosting customers only.

Recently many customers who are using Streamyx with dynamic IP cannot send out emails . This is due to a change in TMnet’s policy to fight spamming. TMnet has blocked outgoing server port 25.

As a workaround, we have provided port 28 for you to send out emails. Please change the port number in your email software (Outlook, Outlook Express, Thunderbird etc.) to 28. Then you should be able to send emails.

If you are still not able to send or receive emails, there must be a reason. Please check your settings very carefully, including watching out for extra spaces and fullstops. Years ago one outstation customer had been facing problems for months. At last they had to send in their laptop to Cyberjaya to check, only to find that their settings were incorrect.

Some common mistakes in settings are as below:

  • Please make sure your account name (username) is username/domain.com, not just username.
  • Please make sure you turn on SMTP authentication (”My server requires authentication”).
  • Please make sure you turn OFF Secure Password Authentication.

In some rare cases, your IP address may have been banned. You can go to http://www.WhatIsMyIP.com, take note of your IP address, turn off and on your router in order to get a new IP address, and try to send or receive emails again.

If you still face any problem, please email us at support@bizpartner.com.my or send a technical support request by SMS here.

Who Owns Your Domain Name?

Published by Ricky under BizPartner, Hosting

In the hosting industry, customers are supposed to have the freedom to choose their hosting provider and switch to a better provider if necessary. I myself process many hosting transfers in and out every month.

In providing hosting service, I notice some customers actually do not own their own domain name. But their domains are owned by their web designer, and sometimes even their hosting provider. They are not the legal owner of the domain names they bought!

I’m not sure why some designers and hosting providers have to own their customers’ domain names. Maybe it’s a way to control the customers in order to get bills paid. Maybe it’s easier for them to administer the web sites of their customers. Maybe they want to prevent customers from switching hosting provider. Or maybe they just want more bargaining power dealing with customers. In any case, the innocent customers often lose out as they are at the mercy of their provider.

I would disagree with such practice. Not only that I don’t want to bear the legal risk as the domain owner when customers misuse their web site or email service, but I think customers should own what they pay for.

Who owns your domain name? You can check it out here at Whois-Search.com. Of course you can also do a search on my site here (see Domain Search at top right corner).
