Guest Blog: Blue River
Guest blog post by Pin of 1.com.my
The classy building and heavy investment of MSC doesn’t really produce second Silicon Valley. It is the people who make it happens! Are we lacking of talents in the web industries? I don’t think so!
Few of them focus in building values to their own projects. Instead, many web developers spent large amount of their time working for others, getting paid on their time than values. Projects such as Blooming Florist and e-Cover are good examples of how values are accumulated and turned into long term recurring models.
Perhaps, running your own business is too huge to be a one-man show project. Let’s work together, by combining expertise of various industries, we believe we can start on something for ourselves!
It takes more than a Blue River to make the Blue Ocean!

Pin loves cycling and interface design. He started 1.com.my and he has a great team who work only 4 days but seeking change 7 days a week. He has built two schools in Cambodia with a domain name that costs RM55. Currently, he is looking for a way to save endangered animals by selling travel guide at USD2.95. Pin wanted to move his office to Starbucks but was rejected, so he ended up starting his own incubators instead.

Thanks Ricky for kind enough to invite me as the Guest Blogger. So far, we have about 40 WDA members and we wish to have more members joining. I was impressed by Ricky’s ideas to setup similiar group for web developers, he is great guy!
Dear Pin, you are welcome to be a guest blogger. Let me know anytime you want to put a post here, even if it’s about your hosting services.
Correct me if I’m wrong. WDA is mainly for web designers and developers. It serves to add values to all members by coming together.
But my idea for the “Internet business club” is for anyone who want to do Internet business, including non-techies. It serves to help one another by learning together.
So our ideas for such group are still quite different. See my idea at http://www.rickysoo.com/2008/06/20/internet-business-club-anyone/
Anyway, I’ll be joining WDA soon
Like every other businesses, the cost of running an Internet Business must be taken care of. While most WDA members are keen on the ideas of working on an Internet Business together, but they have to find way to sustain each of their own company too. In fact, many are not doing good because of the price war. Everyone is feeling the pain and wish for a change, but how?
To make this possible, we share with them the long term goal of Internet Business than working on never-ending projects for your customers. We have convinced most of them that it is the only way out, and we believe in that too.
At the same time, we share with them how to reduce running cost and looking into generating passive income so that they have less noise, but more time for the Internet Business, while not having to worry about the payroll, etc. But, this is not easy. Every company is different, and we don’t have golden finger too. We share with them sincerely, passing them sales leads from our website… Meet my partner who is good finance stuff (www.meshio.com). His name is Yowchuan.
I particularly like this from your post ‘It serves to help one another by learning together’. You are very right.
We are working on a Travel Guide project now. Some WDAs are invited to join this project. We had been working on it for the past 8 months
